10 Genius Kitchen Storage Hacks
We’ve all seen them on Pinterest and in glossy home magazines – those neat, tidy kitchens with nary a stray spoon or salt shaker in sight. The big difference between a cluttered, messy kitchen, begins with effective storage solutions. Everything is allocated a storage space and is easy to maintain.
You don’t need a tonne of storage space, but you do need to be clever about how to store things. I’m a firm believer in ‘use what you have’ and many of these 10 genius storage hacks can be easily implemented immediately!
THINK OUTSIDE THE CUPBOARD
Your shelves have two surfaces perfect for organising kitchen clutter. Bread bins and tins on top and hang cups or utensils underneath.
REGAIN SINK SPACE
Move wet sponges, scrubs and washing liquid off your countertop by placing them in desk organisers in the inside of your under-sink cupboard (an ever-underutilised space).
USE FORGOTTEN SPACES
Like the side of your lower bench spaces. It’s the perfect spot to hang heavy, clunky items that are awkward to store – like colanders or chopping boards.
UTILISE YOUR CUPBOARD DOORS
Hang your most frequently used cooking utensils (like measuring cups and spoons) or washing up items (like gloves) on the back of your cupboard door, instead of cramming them into overcrowded drawers or cupboards.
UTILISE STYLISH BASKETS
Corralling infrequently used goodies in baskets on the top shelf make effective storage solutions for items that are used a few times each year. Items you use every day, can be organised into easy to grab storage containers on lower cupboards or pantry floors too.
MINIMISE CLUTTER
Make big changes by eliminating the clutter. Reduce the mess and the unwanted accumulation of items that make your cupboards and drawers unusable. The fewer items you have, the easier it is to maintain a clean and tidy kitchen.
CEILING & WALL-MOUNTED SHELVING
If you’re pinched for space, consider adding wall mounted shelving. Free up your cupboards and add the everyday items…plates, cups, and glasses here.
MAGNETIC FRIDGE ORGANISER
If you have a magnetic free-standing fridge, you have two added areas that offer instant storage.
WALL HOOKS & HOLDERS
Double up your storage space by adding unobtrusive hooks or holders onto the underside of wall mounted shelves or on to walls and hang aprons, tea towels or oven mitts!
EMPLOY EXTRA FRIDGE SPACE
Wasting food and or lack larder space? Make the most of your fridge and add additional drawers that slot in under the shelves and or containers that easily hold cans, bottles and awkward bottle shapes.
